LASU Crisis: Lawmaker decries attack on VC


The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Honorable Adeyemi Ikuforiji has condemned LASU mayhem which resulted in vandalism of Vice Chancellor’s Toyota Corolla car and his personal assistant’s Semao car marked LA131A44.
It was further learnt yesterday that the rampaging students used sledge hammers to damage the two vehicles.
According to the speaker, his fact finding visit to the campus revealed that the students forced open the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa’s office with sledge hammer. Important documents were allegedly stolen and destroyed. The louvers of the office were equally broken.
At the centre for information, press and public relations, motorcycles and Louvre were also damaged. An eyewitness, who refused to disclose his name, told the speaker that they hid in the toilet after the protest started.
The speaker visited faculty of Social Sciences, faculty of Education, faculty conference hall’s door was forced open and Louvre were damaged too. Mr. Opara Charles, who is the operation officer, said that ‘’35 Rapid Response men are at the gate, we have 42 marshal men, we undertake foot and vehicular patrols.’’
He disclosed that the quick intervention of armed police saved the Vice Chancellor from being killed.
Ikuforiji revealed said: ‘‘I believe that a powerful panel should be set to fish out the culprits; we are grateful to God that police Intervention saved the vice-chancellor.’’
According to Ikuforiji, if the right thing was done, the rioting would end. The speaker remarked that Lagos Assembly would liaise with authority to bring the school back to normality.

Nevertheless, Ikuforiji condemned the issue when the thugs joined students to forment trouble on the campus. On the speaker’s entourage were leader of the house Hon. Dr Ajibayo Adeyeye, Hon. Abiru,Hon. Rotimi Olowo, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, Hon. Madashiru Obasa, Hon. Prince Oloto and House correspondents.
