Navy/Police fracas: Hand over erring officer to us for prosecution —Police •You are joking —Navy

The Nigeria Police, Delta State Command, have asked the Nigeria Naval Ship (NNS Delta), Warri Command to hand over its erring officer whom they alleged wanted to abscond with N8,500, being bill incurred at Kayriott Hotel & Suites last Thursday, for investigation and prosecution.aCommissioner of Police, Delta State, Ikechukwu Aduba, who made this known in a press release signed and made available to  the Nigerian Tribune in Warri on Wednesday, said the naval officer was not more than a criminal who should be investigated and tried.
“We want to state clearly, that the actions of the naval officer hinges on the realm of criminality and the only option left to the naval authority is to hand over the erring naval officer to the police for investigation and prosecution,” Aduba stated, adding that fracas between naval officers and the police had become a recurring decimal in the state.
The CP contended that the press release issued from the stable of the Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Mohammed Garba, last Monday, which was published in newspapers on Tuesday, of which the police was accused of assaulting the naval officer, was untrue and founded.
“We want to state categorically that this is the height of falsehood as the simple fact which is well corroborated by evidence of eyewitnesses account is that the two policemen on guard duty at the hotel, fully dressed in service uniform, were overpowered by the naval personnel, who stormed the premises of the hotel in a commando-like manner; disarmed the police personnel, battered them to stupor, before abducting them together with some officials of the hotel to the Naval Base,” Aduba noted.
NNS Delta had, on Monday, denied reports that its men abducted the hotelier, Honourable Efe Afe, two policemen on guard and other workers as reported in a national daily, saying they were only invited for further investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officers of NNS Delta, Lt. CID Yohana, described the call for the arrest and prosecution of the naval officer as a ridiculous joke.
According to him, investigations were still ongoing on the last week Thursday incident, while the naval officer, Lt. Uche Akalezi, who was allegedly slapped several times by Sergeant Samson Ofoyeju, and the latter who was also said to have been beaten to a pulp by naval ratings, are both receiving medical attentions at different hospitals in Warri.
