NEMESIS 11 persons are in police net after failed bid to dupe banker
Police have arrested 11 people in connection with a fraudsters’ shrine discovered at Eruku Agbon community in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, disclosed this yesterday while conducting journalists round the shrine sited on two plots of land. At the expansive shrine constructed with mud, which had over 20 rooms, are underground tunnels, figurines, masquerade, effigy, coffin, calabash, cash and fake currency, charms, among other things.
The leader of the shrine, Abiola Akoje, is already in police net with his wife, Bunmi, and Kolawole Wasiu, who described himself as an Islamic cleric,
as well as eight others. They were arrested by detectives and are now in custody at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspects had wanted to dupe one man identified as Taiye and an unidentified banker before they met their waterloo. Okoye explained that the suspects had already collected N400,000 as mobilisation fee to prepare concoction for their victim.
He stated that the suspects usually hypnotised their victims to defraud them. Okoye said the suspects would be arraigned on completion of police investigation.
He said: “People should stop being greedy. And be godly. They should stop being after things of the world.
Whatever you have, be satisfied with that. What will be will be. What happened to this person is that he was out to get more than he expected. Be contented with whatever you have.”
But fielding questions from journalists, Akoje, who claimed to be a herbalist operating a traditional healing home in the area, said the place was set up in 2005. He added that he was not involved in crime in the past.
