Police: We’ve rescued them
Detectives attached to the Lagos
State Police Command have rescued two kidnapped victims abducted on Saturday in
Ikorodu area of the state, during a birthday party.
The victims, Habeeb Iyanda, 22, and
his friend, identified simply as Tunde, were returning from a birthday party in
Kiokio area of Isawo when they were kidnapped.
The incident, it was learnt occurred
on Saturday around 4pm. The kidnappers were said to have forced the victims’ picanto
salon car marked JJJ256DP, to stop and dragged them into a waiting speed boat
in the riverine area.
Source said the case was later
reported at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ipakodo. The whole community
was combed without a trace of the kidnappers and their victims.
When our correspondent visited the
victims’ house at No 5 Ikosi Road, Ketu, it was discovered that both families
were not around.
A resident said the kidnap of the
two friends came to him as a surprise.
He said: “I saw the two of them when
they were leaving that fateful day. I was surprised when I received a phone
call from another neigbhour that the boys had been abducted. We believe that
after the bombardment of the creeks by the military, the militants would have
relocated out of Lagos and Ogun states, but the reverse is the case. It shows
they are regrouping to stage a comeback and become deadlier.”
According to the Lagos State Police
Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmos, said the victims were
rescued on Monday.
She said: “At the receipt of the
information, the command embarked on search and rescue operation. The victims
were subsequently rescued.”
