Two suspects on police wanted list, 10 others arrested



Two notorious hoodlums, who have been on the wanted list of the police and 10 others, were arrested at the weekend by the police in Lagos.

The two wanted suspects, Abiola and Odukoya, were arrested with support of members of a vigilante group.
The suspects were arrested at their hideout at about 3.00am on Friday by members of the vigilante group named "Idera," who led policemen to their hideout at a slum called Akamaye in Badia area of Ijora.
The suspects were alleged to have engaged in street fighting and causing panic in the community.
Residents said that the suspects had been declared wanted by policemen in Badia division for various crimes, including robbery and vandalism.
Other suspects were arrested at Ojora and Orisunbare streets, Gangare area of Ijora for violence and causing the breakdown of law and order.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Badia Police Station, Kayode Samuel Ayeni, who confirmed the arrest, disclosed that the suspects, whose ages range between 18 and 20, were members of a notorious gang terrorising Badia and its environ.
Ayeni, who applauded the efforts of members of the Idera vigilante group, said that all the suspects were arrested with the assistance of the vigilante group.
Ayeni further said: “I’m glad to inform you that the Idera vigilante group in collaboration with the police arrested 12 hoodlums and they would soon be charged to court. Please residents should warn their children and wards because the era of wanton killing by hoodlums is gone. No hoodlum will be spared irrespective of his connection.”
The vice chairman of the Eminent People’s Forum in the area, Prince Kayode Badia asserted that crime has reduced drastically since the assumption of office by Ayeni based on his intolerance and methodologically approach to battling crime.
Badia called for the fullest support and cooperation with the DPO and his men in riding the community of criminals. He noted that peace of the community would be to the advantage of residents, since policemen could be posted out at any time.
