Operatives of the Special
Anti-Robbery Squad have arrested three suspected cultists for robbing fish
sellers in order to entertain their colleagues and their leaders.
The suspects who were identified as
Ifeayi Lawrence 23, Lucky James 32, and AbiodunOyelola 25 were arrested by the
SARS officials after receiving distress call about the robbery operations.
The State Commissioner of Police,
Mr. Fatai Owoseni said on Wednesday October 26, when the
command received a distress call that armed robbers went to Magboro
village along Badagry expressway to rob fish sellers of their proceeds.
Owoseni said, the fish sellers were
counting the money they made from the fish they sold the previous day, when the
robbers stormed their market place and collected about six hundred thousand
from the traders.
He said: “immediately they saw
policemen they took to their heels and engaged them in a gun dual, but they
were eventually arrested and N140, 000, 00 was recovered from them including a
Laptop they stole from another person.”
He however said, the suspects would
be charge to court after completion of investigation and the command would not
tolerate illegality in the state.
Lawrence who is an indigene of Abia
State said they decided to rob the fish seller, because they have no other
means of getting money to entertain their leaders visiting their zone.
He said: “we belongs to the Aiye
group, because the black axe always have upper hand whenever we fight, we
decided to invited our leaders and other members from outside to assist us in
fighting them, but with the period they are going to spend with us we would be
the one to feed them and we don’t have money that was why we went to robbed the
traders.”
Before we strike them, we have
monitor them for some time and know when they usually have money, we decided to
strike early in the morning after selling their fish, because we know that
before they leave we would meet them there.
He further said fortunately when
they got there the fish sellers were counting their proceeds we collected their
money totaling about N6, 000,000,000 and some fish to prepared food for
ourselves.
Lawrence told our correspondent that
he joined the cult group as a result of separation of her parents, because he
had nobody to advise him about his bad habit. But regretted his action and
called on parents not divorce each other.
James said, he joined the cult group
two months ago to defend myself because of some boys on their streets who
usually threatened me.
He said: “being the hit man of our
group, I was instructed to led the operation, fortunately when we got to the
scene the women who are mostly old, immediately I brought out the gun and
threatened to killed them if they refused to drop their money, they started
dropping the money into our bags, when we are satisfy we left their on our
motorcycle.”
“We were still trying to arranged
the money very well, when we saw policemen and we took to our heels and we were
given a hot chase, unfortunately we were arrested but part of the money had
been blown away by breeze after counting it, we have N140, 000, 00 left.”
“I wouldn’t have found myself in
this mess, if not because of my greed and stubbornness that pushes me to joined
the cult group, because I want to befriend girls and control our community. I
am ashamed of myself.”
Oyelola who is a motor mechanic said
he joined the Aiye cult group in 2014 when some rival group where threatening
him.
“I was the one who ride the
motorcycle that took us to the scene of the operation that fateful day, I don’t
follow them inside to robbed the fish sellers, because I have to be on standby
and be alert we went for the operation to take care of colleagues and our
leaders.”
