We need community members to check crime-DPO

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of Trade Fair Police Station, yesterday said that members of the community were needed in order to check crime.

The DPO, Mr. Kayode Ojapinwa, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), made this observation during the inauguration Eminent Persons’ Forum in his division.
Ojapinwa emphasised the need for community policing in checking crime in the community.

His words: “When the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Idris Ibrahim came on board, he ordered all the commissioners of police to inaugurate the Eminent Persons' Forum. The IGP recognizes the importance of community policing and wanted policemen to be proactive. The forum will afford us the opportunity to be closer to the people and to know who to call if there is problem in the community. Everyone is a security officer and we need members of the community to fight crime.”

The Eminent Persons' Forum it was gathered will hold every three months. Present at the event were traditional rulers. Other persons at the event include traders and community members.
