Police arrest 60, destroy drugs worth N50m in Lagos



The Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, destroyed narcotic drugs worth over N50million at the Olusosun dump site, Ojota area of the metropolis.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who set the seized drugs on fire, disclosed that they were recovered from drug peddlers at Akala area of Mushin, during raids.

Imohimi said: “It will be recalled during my town hall meeting, that I promised to raid drug peddlers. I instructed my men  to arrest those selling drugs in the state. What you are seeing is the result of those raids. Those arrested have been prosecuted, and we have also received order from the court to destroy the drugs.”
He disclosed that some of the destroyed drugs were Codeine, Indian helm, Arizona and skun, all worth over N50m.
The CP appealled to the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria to sell codeine based on prescriptions.
He stressed: “ They should ensure that people who doesn’t have prescription notes from doctors, shouldn’t be attended to. If this is adhered to, it will reduce  youths’ restiveness. We’re going to get rid of drug peddlers. When  my men raided Akala alone, we arrested about 60 suspects. They have been charged to court. We’re not going to allow drugs to be sold on the street of Lagos anymore. During my meeting with students union of various institutions in the state recently, they promised to collaborate with the command to eradicate cultism and drugs in their institutions.”
