The Nigerian Police has arrested eleven suspects in connection with
armed robbery and kidnapping and rescued four victims.
The suspects
have been identified as Hassan Ibrahim, 40, gang leader, Lukman Jubrin, 24, Yahaya Saibu, 25, Victor Abila, 28, Likita Umar,
27, Abdulahi Haruna, 25,
Usman
Marafa, 31, Bello Abdullahi, 29, Abdulmumun alhaji, 27, Bala mohammed, 30, Abubakar
mohammed
Items recovered from the suspects are three Ak47 rifles, 72 round of AK 47 ammunition,
three locally made guns, cutlasses, charms and sticks.
There
are three men and a woman among the rescued victims.
The
Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris NPM, extended last month the
mandate and responsibilities of Operations Absolute Sanity to cover Birnin
Gwari – Funtua, Birnin Gwari – Kaduna and Kaduna – Kano Highways to respond to
the recent occurrence of cases of kidnapping and armed robbery on the mentioned
roads.
Consequently,
the above mentioned suspects were arrested in the act during an operation that
lasted several hours in the identified kidnap dens, camps and hideouts along
Birnin Gwari – Funtua, Birnin Gwari – Kaduna and Kaduna – Kano Highways.
The 11
suspects, during interrogation confessed to the crimes and admitted to have
carried out several kidnappings/armed robberies attacks on innocent travelers
on Birnin Gwari – Funtua and Birnin Gwari -Kaduna and Kaduna - Kano roads in
recent times.
The four
victims comprising were rescued unhurt from the suspects without payment of
ransom.
