Robbers attack corps member in Bayelsa •Cut off right arm

Tragedy occurred in Yenagoa yesterday as a female corp members, serving in Bayelsa State, had her right arm cut off by two armed robbers, who also made away with her bag.
It was learnt that 26-year-old Miss Folakemi Akinbode, a Batch A corps member, who hails from Ondo State, studied nursing and graduated from Madonna University, Elele, Rivers State.
According to a reliable source, Akinbode was returning from the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, where she was carrying out her primary assignment as a support nurse, when she was ambushed by the robbers, who carried out the dastardly act.
Continuing, the source said when they caught up with her, they demanded for her handbag, but her refusal infuriated the robbers who brought out a matchete and cut off her arm.
It was learnt that during the attack, she screamed for help but nobody came to her rescue because she was still some distance away from the corps members lodge at Obunagha Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
Report has it that after her arm had been cut off, she mustered the little strength in her to get to the corps members’ lodge. where she collapsed. Her colleagues immediately rushed her to the teaching hospital for emergency health care services.
Another source at the hospital told the Nigerian Tribune that she bled profusely and that three pints of blood were given to her to enable her regain consciousness. As at press time it was learnt that she waas gradually beginning to move her fingers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the attack of the corps member and noted that investigation is on to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
