Police recover N15.5m after domestic aids steal from employer

The Lagos State Police has arrested three domestic workers for allegedly stealing their boss's N15.5million.

The suspects, Wisdom Chilekwe, Blessing Obat and Lawrence Essien were arrested separately while allegedly fleeing with the money.
The incident occurred on April 28, at 94B, Carlton Gate Estate, Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos.
One Amuche was said to have brought the money home because he wanted to carry out a business transaction the following day.  Two of the suspects, the chef and house help, allegedly stole the bag containing the money from where it was kept.
They were allegedly savoring the loot, when Essien, the driver, caught them. To ensure he keeps his mouth shut, Essien was given N6.5million. Essien was said to have sent N200,000 to his wife at Akwa Ibom State to make preparations for his arrival.
On his way to Akwa Ibom with the balance of the money, Essien was arrested and the money recovered.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, refused to give the full names of the owner of the money or the amount taken. He however,  confirmed that N9million was recovered from the Chef and housemaid, totaling about N15.5million.
Owoseni said: “Investigation is ongoing. The suspects would be prosecuted. We have also arrested five pupils of Ireti Secondary School, Ikoyi, who allegedly sexually assaulted some teenaged secondary school girls. The pupils would be arraigned today (Wednesday). They are underage and would likely be taken to juvenile remand homes. We urge parents to be mindful of the things their wards do.”
