Abba Kyari inducted into Lagos Hall of Fame

The Officer in Charge (OC) of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (SIRT), an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abba Kyari, has once again bagged another award for display of gallantry.

Kyari and his operatives, who have bagged series of awards for valour, last week, snagged another award, this time from the Lagos State Government. This, however, wouldn’t also be his first award from the state government.

During the administration of Raji Fashola (SAN), as governor of the state, Kyari, then the OC of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), bagged series of awards after arresting several robbers and kidnappers.

Last week award, Kyari was inducted into the ‘Excellence in Security Merit Award’ at the Lagos @50 Hall of Fame Awards.

The organisers of the Lagos @50 Hall of Fame Awards, TECHTV in conjunction with the Lagos State Government, conferred the award on Kyari in recognition of his meritorious service to Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.

Part of his commendation read reads: “You’re a passionate officer with a history of bravery, gallantry and discipline. Your knowledge, experience and willingness to share and delegate are second to none.  As the youngest ACP in Nigeria, heading the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), you’re etching your footprints on the marble of time for the good of Nigeria and humanity, and this should not escape full historical documentation.”

It will be recalled that in recent times, Kyari led his team of lion hearted operatives to capture one of Nigeria’s most wanted kidnapper and robbery kingpin, Mr. Henry Chibueze, alias Vampire in Port Harcourt.

Vampire, before his demise in the hands of Kyari and his men during a gun battle, had been a thorn in the flesh of citizens of Imo State and its government.

He has also seen to the arrest of many notorious and hardened criminals, who are now in prison custody.

Another notable achievement of Kyari, is the arrest of Mr Abiodun Eunjobi, aka Godogodo. Before his arrest in Lagos State, Godogodo has killed over 500 policemen and Nigerians.
He has also won many awards including the IGP’s Commendation Award for Courage 2012, 2013 and 2014; the Governor's Award for Gallantry Leadership and Service 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The Lagos @50 Hall of Fame Awards is designed to celebrate achievers; men, women, organisations and institutions who are based in Lagos and have used their gifts and talents to make impact and contributed in a way to the growth and development of the state in their various endeavors and assignments.
Reacting to his latest award, Kyari said: “I was very happy when I received the news that organisers of Lagos@50 Hall of Fame Award recognized our efforts in fighting crime and protecting lives and property. It is very encouraging and motivating. This will make us to redouble our efforts in our fight against criminals and criminality in Lagos and across the country. I encourage all my colleagues and other Nigerians in all fields to work very hard and excel in whatever they are doing. There is no substitute for hard work and it always pays sooner or later.”
