Lagos places N30m reward for information on fleeing kidnapper

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, (CP), Mr Fatai Owoseni, yesterday said that the Lagos State Government, in synergy with the police, have placed a N30 million reward for information concerning a fleeing kidnapper identified as Evans.

Owoseni, who made the declaration at POWA secretariat, Oduduwa, Ikeja, while briefing journalists, said that anyone with vital information, leading to the arrest of Evans would be rewarded with N30million.

According to Owoseni, Evans has been declared Wanted in Anambra, Edo and Lagos states for over four years now.

It would be recalled that in February, Mr. Donatus Duru was kidnapped by a gang led by Evans.

Duru, who luckily escaped from the den of the kidnappers, was taken to the Igando Police Station by some Good Samaritans. He was later interviewed by the officer in charge of Anti-kidnapping Unit in Lagos State Police Command.
The Unit, after debriefing Duru, was led to the kidnappers’ hideout; a bungalow, located at 19, Ataye Street, Igando.

Owoseni said: “Although there was no one found in the building, a number of ammunition was recovered from the building. Items recovered from the hideout include four Ak47 rifles, two automatic pistols with each having four magazines. The magazines were loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, 1,272 rounds of live ammunition, 59 Ak47 Magazines, a police bullet proof vest, a Toyota bus and a motorcycle.”

Further debriefing of Duru led to arrest of two persons connected to the abduction. Owoseni said that the two suspects were discovered to be working for Evans. Owoseni said that other items recovered from the hideout wouldn’t be mentioned in order not to jeopardize ongoing investigation.

The CP added: “This is regarded as a major breakthrough towards apprehending the suspect. I enjoin well-meaning Lagosians to take advantage of the handsome reward and give information that would lead to the arrest of Evans and other members of his gang. Security agencies, especially the police, with the state government are putting up an idea of a very robust reward for whoever that can blow the whistle and assist the government in apprehending this notorious Kidnapper. A very handsome reward will be paid for any information that leads to the arrest of Evans and members of his gang.”

Owoseni also said that the police are working in collaboration with the office of the Attorney General of Lagos State to demolish the kidnappers’ hideout or take over possession according to the law of Anti-kidnapping
