Children abductions: Police boss urges religious leader to secure worship centres

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi, has urged religious leaders in the state to beef up security around worship centers.
Imohimi made the appeal yesterday while briefing journalists at the Police Command, Ikeja, on a new method of kidnapping being deployed by kidnappers.
He said that the kidnappers used to pose as worshippers to abduct children during worship services in churches and mosques.
Edgal said that religious leaders should contact the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in their area to provide them with security during worship.
He added: “This is the new modus operandi by hoodlums trying to infiltrate Lagos. We have recorded two cases at Christ Embassy and Latter Rain Assembly Church, where children were abducted. In both instances, these hoodlums pose as worshippers, went into children's department and when ushers were not vigilant, stole the children. They usually target children that had strayed from parents or adults. I’m using this opportunity to call on all worship centers to increase security around children during service. Four suspects had been tracked through their bank account details to Port-Harcourt and they have been arrested. We will not keep quiet till we conclude investigation. For every worship session, the DPO must provide two categories of security. There will be security men in uniform for internal security and plain cloth policemen for external security. It is not enough to just establish worship centers. The welfare and security of the worshippers of such places are responsibilities of the religious leader.”
He further said that with the arrest of the four suspects, the police were closing in on arresting other suspects.
