Teenager electrocuted while playing football

A 16-year-old old boy, Izuchi Victor Uduma, has been electrocuted while playing football with his friends at the Aba area of Abia State.

The incident was said to have occurred around 5p.m on Wednesday at Umuokahia, along Umuafor, a suburb town in Aba.
The secondary school victim was from Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Ikenna said that the incident was sudden and shocking.
Ikenna further stated that the incident occurred when Izuchi went into a nearby bush to pick the ball, after one of the players sent it flying into the bush with a kick.
The boy went into the bush and noticed that the ball was on a puddle of water. He, however, didn’t know that the water housed a life wire. Immediately Izuchi stepped into the water to pick the ball, he was electrocuted.
Ikenna said: “It was so tragic; Izuchi was playing football with his friends as I was returning from work. I just crossed over from the area and suddenly I heard disturbing screams. The next thing I saw was his body shaking, and then he died. Everyone was afraid to do anything. It was so sudden. It was later that we discovered that a plantain leaf in the bush covered a naked wire that fell into the bush and part of the wire was touching the waterlogged area close to the football pitch.”
Effort made to reach the parents of the boy proved abortive as they were said to be in a mournful mood.
