Police boss orders manhunt for killers of policemen


The Assistant Inspector - General of Police (AIG), Zone 5 Benin, Edo State capital, Mr Rasheed Akintunde, has ordered the Commissioners of Police for Edo and Delta states to fish-out those behind the murder of four policemen.


The four policemen were killed on duty and burnt in a patrol van in Owan West council area of Edo State. Akintunde insisted that the perpetrators of the heinous crime must be brought to book. 

Akintunde gave the charge during a security meeting. He also condemned the attacks on policemen in the two sister states, resulting in the death of policemen.

DSP Emeka Iheanacho stated that the AIG had ordered that the commands under the zone should intensify manhunt for bandits perpetrating crime within parts of the zone.
The police zonal top shot described the situation as appalling and ordered the arrests of the criminals. 

The AIG further used the medium to advice policemen to be security conscious and professional in the discharge of their duties.  He warned criminals to steer clear of the zone. 

Akintunde also warned that the use of illegal firearms remains prohibited, adding that anyone caught in possession of the dangerous arms would be arrested and prosecuted.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the zone to ensure adequate security of lives and property of citizens of Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states at all time.

He said that the attacks on policemen in different part of the zone would not deter his men from carrying out their constitutional duties as the zone remains resolute in its fight against crime and criminality.

Apart from the recent attacks on policemen, Akintunde also reviewed other crime situation such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, murder etc., in the zone, which according to him, had gone down considerably.

He noted that several arrests were made and recoveries made with tremendous breakthroughs.

He commended officers and men of the zone for their tireless efforts and urged them not to relent even as he reminded the public that security was a collective responsibility of all citizens. He appealed to them to continue to support the police through provision of useful information, which could help in crime detention, prevention and apprehension.
