The warning came against the backdrop of many
atrocities happening in the city, which had been linked to ‘Aro-Cult Boys.’ The
group allegedly had been terrorizing many communities.
The dreaded cult group, which operates around Ndiegoro,
Abaukwu and Over-Rail axis of Aba, had become a thorn in the flesh of residents
who no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.
Emeka Okafor, a resident of Ndiegoro axis of Aba
said that the activities of the Aro-Cult Boys was sending a wrong signal to
residents that the city could be going back to the old era of the Mafia-Boys.
Okafor said: “I reside here in Obohia Road. People
living in this street and other neighbouring streets here at Ndiegoro axis are
living in fear. We don’t sleep at night because of the activities of these
boys. They break houses of people whenever they wanted to deal with whoever
they perceived had issues with them. We’re now wondering if we are going back
to the era of old Aba Mafia Group that dealt with residents here. These
‘Aro-cult Boys’ used to snatch phones and molest girls who rejected their love advances.
Whenever it gets dark, nobody walks around. The person’s valuables can be taken
and the person will still get beaten. We’re begging the police to intensify
their fight against these boys because they are increasing on daily basis. I
know the police have arrested most of them, but they keep relocating to areas,
where vehicles cannot penetrate. As you can see, our roads are too bad and
before police vehicles could get here, they must have carried out their illicit
act and disappear.”
Opara said that his command couldn’t condole a group
that could become kidnappers and armed robbers by tomorrow. Opara urged members
of the public to always dial police emergency numbers any time they noticed suspicious
wrong activities.
The area commander further warned all those involved
or acting as members of any cult group in Aba to quickly relocate or face the
full wrath of the law.
His words: “The issue of cultism is not peculiar to
Aba. Police hierarchy both here in Abia and Abuja are all fighting it together.
It’s now a national issue, but for jurisdiction purpose, Aba Area Command
can never tolerate any form of illicit activity where some irresponsible
persons will be disturbing citizens of Nigeria all in the name of one cult
nonsense or being high on drugs, because 99% of them are into drugs. The Abia
State Commissioner of Police has urged us to intensify fight against cultism.
We have been doing our best here. I have printed fliers containing all
necessary emergency numbers that could be contacted for information about such
people. We have arrested and prosecuted a lot of them, and we have warned
before and we are reiterating here from Aba Area Command, that we have declared
total war on cultism. As matter of
urgency, let whosoever that is involved in this cultism thing stop it or
relocate out of Aba. We’ll not spare any of them, irrespective of their family
background. If we get them, we shall prosecute them accordingly.”
