Father of four arrested for inflicting injuries on his 13yrs old nephew

Angry members of Osubi Community in Osubi Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, have handed Mr. Ifeanyi Akpa over to the police after he allegedly inflicted grievous bodily harm on his 13-year-old nephew.

Akpa, an indigene of Onicha Igbeze of  Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, residing in Francis Dogwu's compound was caught by the community for the severely beating his nephew Chigozie Ogbu black and blue.
According to Osubi youth president, Comrade Friday Okpako, who alerted Orerokpe Police Station, there were several report by neighbours of severe maltreatment and corporal punishment meted on the boy on  daily basis  by Akpa and his wife  Ngozi, who has four  children.
Okpako alleged that Chigozie used to do all the domestic work in the house, sell sachet water during the day and yet allegedly wouldn’t allowed to have a peace of mind.
Okpako lamented: “Chigozie had completed his primary education, but the couple refused to enroll him into secondary school. The boy happens to be very intelligent.”
The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, who is also the community leader, said that he was on his way from church, when he met the situation and immediately directed that the boy should be taken to the hospital for proper medical attention. He expressed shock over the injuries inflicted on the boy.
Our correspondent gathered that Chigozie was asked to stand but couldn’t because of the excruciating pains from his lacerate back.
Oborevwori also directed Sheriff Oborevwori Foundation Scholarship/Bursary Committee Chairman, Chief Mrs. E. E. Onokpasa, to award scholarship to Chigozie to University level to enable him continue his education.
He said the scholarship will run till the end of his university studies. He also promised to ensure the well-being of the child. The police later whisked Akpa to Orerokpe Police Station.
When the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, was contacted on phone, he said that our correspondent should send him a text message. After a long while of waiting, Aniamaka finally responded that he was in a meeting. As at the time of going to press, he was yet to get back to the correspondent.
