Ogun cops arrest 1,227 suspects, recover N77m

The Ogun State Police Command says it arrested 1,227 suspects for various crimes across the state and recovered N77m between January and June 2014.
Briefing PUNCH Metro on Tuesday on the activities of the police, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, explained that among the suspects, 157 were arrested for armed robbery, while others were arrested for crimes such as murder, stealing and fraud.

Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that within the period, the command   arrested 26 suspected rapists, 57 cultists and killed 24 robbers.
Adejobi further said the men of the Ogun State command recovered 90 arms and 390 rounds of ammunition, adding that 87 vehicles were recovered within the period under the review.
He said the value of property recovered within the period was over N77 m.
Adejobi added, “Still within the same period, the Ogun State Police Command charged no fewer than 419 cases to court and prosecuted 204 suspects.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, said the command had changed its strategy to “zero tolerance for crime.”
“We hereby warn criminal elements in the state to have a change of heart,” he added.
