The renowned thespian, Chief Chika Okpalla aka Zebrudaya, was among 700 students who matriculated at the Enugu Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Zebrudaya told journalists at the study centre on Nike Road, Abakpa, Enugu, that his decision to enrol for the Master of Business Management at NOUN stemmed from his belief that “age is no barrier to education”.
He said: “As long as you can feel, as long as you can understand and practicalise you are qualified at any time to go in and read to better your education.”
According to him, since Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is now in vogue, “whether you like it or not, you must go back to school to learn it”.
Okpalla, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Zodiac Brains Limited, noted that though he had made a mark in entertainment scene in Nigeria, he decided to read management to be able to manage himself.
“Yes, I might have made a mark in entertainment industry but that is entertainment, this is management.
Nobody is managing me so I decided to go and read management to be able to manage myself,” he disclosed, adding that his desire for higher education would not make him to abandon his ‘Zebrudaya language’.
Okpalla, who is also a NOUN Ambassador, said he was proud to have groomed some notable Nollywood actors like Nkem Owo, Patience Ozokwo among others.
Earlier, the Acting Director of NOUN, Enugu Study Centre, Mrs Maria-Theresa Onyehalu, disclosed that every semester the school admits students twice, adding that about 700 students were involved in the matriculation.
She said: “The emphasis in open and distance learning is not on facilitation rather it is that you use your study materials which are produced in diverse formats.”
