Police hold human parts’ dealers, 46 others
NEMESIS Those who claim to be making money from selling human parts are now cooling their feet in police cell
Police in Kwara Statesaid they had apprehended three suspected human parts’ dealers. This came a few weeks after the discovery of a site purportedly being used as kidnappers’ den in Illorin, the state capital. One of the suspect human parts dealers is said to be the herbalist behind the gang.
The three persons were part of 49 men arrested by the police between July 15 and 22 for various offences.
Seven of them were arrested for allegedly participating in cult-related activities, while 27 were picked up for their alleged role in latest violence around Oja-Iya/Eruda area of the state capital. In the said incident, 10 vehicles were vandalised, one building was burnt while several people were injured.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ambrose Aisabor, who announced the arrest at a press briefing yesterday, said the suspected human parts dealers were caught at Tabira village near Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area.
The three suspects were brought to the command head them quarters with a fresh human head and arms as exhibits.

They were arrested about 10:35pm on July 22, following intelligence report, according to the commissioner. Aisabor said that the suspects had, during interrogation, confessed to the crime and mentioned some top politicians and businessmen who allegedly patronised them.
He said: “Detectives, while acting on intelligence, arrested one Amos Kareem and during investigation, search was conducted in his house where human parts, including head and arms, were recovered while Abubakar Ladan, an accomplice, was also arrested. Both confessed to have been dealing in human parts.”
Aisabor said five suspects were also arrested for armed robbery and possession of firearms after they had broken into the camp of one Musa Muazu at Tenbo village and carted away personal items of the victims.
One of them was said to have, however, been sighted later in the day wearing one of the stolen clothes and was arrested which led to the arrest of others. Another set of six men were also nabbed for conspiracy and armed robbery.
They were alleged to have attacked one Umar Ahmed and Mansur Bello who were conveying goods worth about N14 million in a truck on the Ilorin-Ogbomosho Expressway on July 15. They severely wounded an escort of the truck who is currently receiving medical treatment.
Two of those arrested for allegedly being members of a secret cult, according to the commissioner, were nabbed around Kilanko Garage, Offa area of the state capital on July 18, where they had scheduled a rendezvous of their cult group.
One battle axe, two cutlasses, one toy gun, one knife and charms were recovered from headthem while five others were arrested at the Kwara State Polytechnic and Oke-Oyi on July 21.
The police commissioner promised to ensure a crime-free state and solicited the support of the media in achieving that goal. Aisabor also promised to ensure proper security of lives and property during Ramadan across the state.
He said: “The fight against criminals and criminality in Kwara will continue. It is going to be pursued vigorously. I strongly solicit the support of the media in our crusade against criminals. Let me express our gratitude to the good people of Kwara State for the information they have been giving to us.
“The information giving has been credible. I am pleading with them not to relax. They should continue to assist us. Security is a collective responsibility. It is not for Kwara State alone. Every citizen living in Kwara State must be involved in the security of Kwara State. “Kwara State command is very proactive.
The Sallah holiday is coming. Our personnel are on red alert. Day and night patrols have been re-intensified. Every policeman is at alert. “I want to use this medium to again reassure the good people of Kwara State that Kwara is a state of harmony. It is a state of peace and tranquillity.
We are going to continue to provide the enabling environment for business to thrive. With the Sallah very close, we will ensure that people coming into Kwara State and people passing though the state are well protected.”
