Kidnappers, who abducted six students from the Lagos Model Collage,
Igbonla, Epe, yesterday moved their victims from their former location
in the creek.
This came as the kidnappers at the weekend played a mind
games with parents of the students and security agents. Yesterday’s
relocation, believed to be on the orders of General America, the
militants’ overall commander, was the second time since the students
were abducted 12 days ago.
Last weekend, the abductors moved the
students to Oga Imakun Omi Creek on the fringe of Lagos and Ogun states.
But yesterday, security sources, told our correspondent that the
kidnappers had moved the children from Oga Imakun Omi Creek to outside
both Lagos and Ogun states.
The kidnappers had given parents of the abducted students Tuesday
last week as deadline for payment of ransom for the release of the
students, threatening to relocate them if their demand was not met.
After the expiration of the deadline, officials of the Inspector-General
of Police (IG) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) arrested three members
of the gang believed to have gone to survey the waterways prior to the
planned relocation. They were arrested in Benin, Edo State as they were
coming out of the creek.
Last week, 14 militants, according to those arrested, were killed
when a combined team of policemen from the Lagos State Police Command,
Marine Police and the IRT stormed the first camp where the students were
being held hostage. During the encounter, the police sunk two boats
belonging to the militants. Sources said the police searched the camp
and discovered that the militants had moved the victims. Meanwhile, in
what seems to be a ploy to determine whether the security agents were
closing in on them, the kidnappers on Saturday sold dummy to the
victims’ parents.
They told one of the parents to brink N2 million to a designated point
at Odogunyan. But the parent was frustrated as the person issuing
instructions on the phone kept shifting the collection point. A source
had told our correspondent at the weekend that the security agents had
narrowed down the location of the students to Oga Imakun Omi Creek.
“After the militants’ gun battle with police, they lost 14 of their men.
America handpicked five of his trusted men and instructed them to move
the school children to a new location,” the source said.https://newtelegraphonline.com/2017/06/militants-relocate-kidnapped-students/
