Ondo Government places surveillance on riverine community

The Governor of Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has placed some riverine communities on 24 hours surveillance over fear of possible attack after killing of militant leader in the state.

According to sources at the government house, in the state capital Akure, the recent clash between soldiers and militants, which led to the death of soldiers and over eight militants, including the leader of the militants, Ossy Itori, has left residents of the riverine communities fleeing their homes.

The sources further said that Akeredolu, who ordered compensation for the families of soldiers killed by militants in Ajapa in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state, met with senior military officers and the police, after the mayhem, instructing that communities; Ajapa, Ugbo and Ugbola be placed under security watch.

The Governor’s senior adviser on security, Mr Jimoh Dojumoh, who confirmed this, said that the notorious robbery kingpin, Ibori, met his Waterloo in the hands of soldiers.
Dojumoh said: “Ibori boys fled during the clash between the militants and the soldiers. Even as some of them were killed, the governor, mindful of a possible reprisal on the communities, strategized with the deputy governor and security agents in the state to check and stop such attempts. Meanwhile, fleeing residents have returned to their various homes.”
