Imenje, a
father of four, who claimed to be married to a woman working with a popular
television located in Ikosi-Ketu, was arrested while allegedly trying to
strangle the owner of a studio and dispossess of his cameras and laptops.
A source at the
station revealed that the suspect, while being quizzed by the Divisional Police
Officer (DPO), in charge of the station, offered the DPO a N200,000 bribe to
quash the case.
It was gathered
that the shocked DPO rejected the money and ordered that the suspect be charged
to court.
According to
the police, the suspect specialises in the stealing of expensive
cameras. Singing like a bird while in custody, Imenje disclosed that
before carrying out any criminal act, he would visit and study the environment
where the target is located.
He said: “I
usually pretend to be a customer in order to check out the place I was going to
rob. I used to arm myself with axe, which I used to threaten victims and later
rob them of their property.”
Imenje claimed
to have been robbing for the past five years without ever being arrested. He
said that luck, however, ran out on him in his last operation.
Police said
that the suspect was arrested after they received a distress call at Ago Police
Station. The call was later discovered to have come from a victim.
Items recovered
from the suspect are a brand new generator, laptops and studio cameras valued
at N5 million. Imenje blamed his alleged criminal activities on the
devil.
