Mrs. Osifo, and mother of nine
children hails from Igbanke but presently resids in Ugboko village, in
Orhionwon Local Government Area of Edo State before her arrest.
The Commander of the NAPTIP, Benin
zone, Nduka Nwanwenne said Mrs. Osifo was arrested by operatives of the agency with
the support of officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps
(NSCDC).
Nduka in a statement made available to
newsmen in Benin the state capital yesterday said the suspect had recruited two young
girls aged 18 years old and 20 years old and promised them lucrative work
outside the country.
Mrs. Halimatu Omoruyi Osifo had on perfection
of her secret plot sent the two girls to her daughter, simply identified as Blessing
aka Stella, who is based in Togo, for prostitution.
It was learnt that as soon as the
victims arrived Togo, Blessing procured skimpy dresses and introduced them into
prostitution and collected their earnings in the process.
According to Mr. Nduka, one of the
girls who were exhausted by the ordeals of prostitution, had thrown in the
towel and declared her resolve to call quits the ugly business.
The victim said, “I will not
prostitute again, if they want to kill me, I am ready to die.”
The girls were said to have hidden
some of their earnings to escape before being rescued by NAPTIP officials.
But in her reaction to the
development, the Director General of NAPTIP, Julie Okah-Donli said the agency
is poised to smoke out human traffickers wherever they maybe in Nigeria.
Okah-Donli also warned traffickers
not only to relocated out of Nigeria but give up their illicit business. The
Director General added that the Agency is already gathering intelligence in
endemic communities in Nigeria with a view to getting traffickers out of
business.
