Thousands of arms, ammunition recovered from son of police officer


A young man arrested by the police in Kwara State has said that the thousands of arms and ammunition found in their home belonged to his slain who was an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

According to the youngman identified as Momoh Ogirimah, his late father was in charge of operations and led a  team of policemen two years who were ambushed by Ombatse cult members in Nassarawa State.
The arms and ammunition recovered from him include one Baretta pistol with number A07078Z said to belong to the Ondo State Command, one revolver pistol with number RUHMRG799ABL said not to be on the record of any command in the country and one locally-made pistol.
Others include 133 pieces of 7.62mm ammunition, 28 pieces of .9mm ammunition, 22 pieces of 7.6mm ammunition, three bulletproof vests, one respirator, one complete set of body protector, three blasts, one hand grenade, 11 smoke cartridges, 86 life cartridges, 42 pieces of 5.56mm ammunition, two pieces of .36mm ammunition, 27 live rubber cartridges, nine .9mm rubber bullets and one anti-riot helmet.
The suspect, a graduate of Industrial Engineering from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, in Oyo State, he discovered the cache of arms in their home a few months after the death of the ACP.
He became a guest after he threatened someone with one of the guns. The scared victim had dashed to the police to report. A search of the house by the police revealed the armoury.
