The Supreme Court of Nigeria will on Friday, January 26, 2018 deliver judgement in the N1.4 billion fraud case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against Gabriel Daudu, former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly and former caretaker chairman, Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of the State.
The Commission had in April 2016, through Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, secured Daudu’s conviction, a judgment he challenged at the Court of Appeal and lost.
It would be recalled that Daudu was first arraigned in April 2010 by the EFCC on a 208-count charge bordering on money laundering and misappropriation of public funds while in office.
Justice Ekwo, who presided over the case at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, found Daudu guilty of 77 counts out of the 208 count charge and sentenced him to 154 years in prison, two years on each of the 77 counts, to run concurrently.
In the course of the prosecution, the EFCC, through its counsel, Wahab Shittu, presented 13 witnesses and tendered various exhibits to prove the case against the convict.
