Jakara market inferno: four-year-old boy burnt to death, 40 injured, 10 houses razed down



A four-year-old boy was believed to have died in the fire outbreak which started at about 9am today, at Jakara market, Lagos Island.
Tongues of flames were said to have spread to 10 houses which were immediately razed down.
A police source confirmed that aside from the four-year-old boy who was trapped in one of the buildings and later found dead, about 40 people were injured.
Another police source said: “The fire started from a sort of a warehouse, where fire crackers, had been kept for over three years. The fire which started in the morning, spread to over 10 buildings, killing a young boy and inflicting serious burnt on 40 people.”
The fire was said to have been controlled by fire fighters who later arrived at the scene.
