Residents of Agodo Egebe in Ikotun area of Lagos Tuesday watched in awe and consternation as a 21-year old man, Utochukwu Ukandu set himself ablaze.
New Telegraph learnt that the incident which occurred at 20B Ademola Street, Agodo Egbe near Ikotun threw the entire community into confusion.
Utochukwu was said to have drank some quantity of kerosene, soaked a mattress with it before setting himself ablaze.
For few minutes, neighbours and other sympathisers in the area battled to put out the fire but they couldn’t control the situation until the officials of the Lagos State Fire Service intervened and rescue the man who sustained serious burns.
According to his elder brother, Ebuka Ukandu had earlier vowed to commit suicide before the incident.
