Mother to sues Transport Company for endangering kids’ lives

An angry passenger of E. Ekeson and Bros Transport Company Limited has kicked against the habit of most drivers abandoning their clients along the road, unmindful of the danger.

The woman, Mrs. Amaka Onyekwere, noted that the drivers or the companies they represent, usually did not bother to refund fares already paid at the parks.

Mr. Emma, driver with E.  Ekeson, is the driver who attracted Mrs. Onyekwere’s ire,  after he allegedly abandoned her, her kids and other passengers at Owerri.

Mrs. Onyekwere who boarded the Lagos-Aba bound bus at the Ikotun, Lagos State, She said: “On July, 29, I and my kids boarded the bus. We were going to Aba, in Abia State. I paid N10,000 for three seats. When we reached Owerri, the driver said we should get down for no reason. He bundled us into another Ekeson Bus, said to be heading to Aba. He did after a lot of protestation from me. He did not consider our safety or the fact that it was night.”

A seasoned interstate traveller, Ojukwu Nnabife, said most drivers do such for mercenary reasons. “The money they make whenever they drop passengers picked from park, for new ones along the roads, go into their private pockets. Many passengers had been robbed, killed and others sleep on the road because of what such drivers did and are still doing,” Nnabife.

Mrs. Onyekwere revealed that her husband was already planning to take legal action to underscore how serious they were taking the matter.

The transport company’s spokesperson, Mr. Farouk Biniki, said that it was against company’s policy for any driver to abandon his passengers along the way.

While assuring that the matter would be investigated,  Biniki said that if what Mrs.  Onyekwere alleged was the truth, the driver would be prosecuted personally by the company.

He added: “ Drivers who do that for selfish interests, are not with registered transport companies. We’ll take action on this matter!”
