Police in Kano have arrested one Abubakar Abdurrahman aka Daddy, who
confessed to have killed Alhaji Bello Akanbi, the owner of the popular
GAP Hotel.
This came as the police also two persons for parading themselves as
police detectives. Daddy told journalists that he went to steal from
Akanbi who was his former boss.
But, according to him, on realising that the man was awake, he
engaged him in a fight and stabbed him several times until he gave up
the ghost. He admitted that he was sacked from the hotel for stealing.
The state Police Commissioner,
Akerele Shinaba, said the suspect was
apprehended at Badawa town through an intelligent networking. Shinaba
added that Daddy would soon be arraigned. He said: “Similarly, we have
arrested three persons who faked themselves as men of the State Criminal
Investigation Department (SCID).
“The two men were said to have duped somebody after tagging him an
insurgent and threatened to take him to their office if he did not
cooperate. “Already, these men are cooling their feet in our custody and
soon they will be taken to court to face impersonation charges.”
The fake detectives, according to him, were threatening people by
tagging them as insurgents. He added that they collected money running
into millions of naira from their victims.
The suspects, AbduRazak Umar who posed as Deputy Commissioner of
Police, Aliyu Adamu as Superintendent of Police and Inuwa Muhammad as
Inspector, went to somebody around Lebanon Road. After a series of
negotiation, he gave them N1.5 million, but suspecting their action, he
quickly reported the matter to the police.
Shinaba said that as the men moved to dupe another person after
tagging him a terrorist and already collected about N500,000, his men
swopped on them. He said police arrested three of them while two others
fled.
