Robbery suspect dies in shoot-out with police

Robbery suspect dies in shoot-out with police

A suspected notorious armed robber yesterday lost his life during an encounter with the police at Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. The robbers engaged operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team of the police in a gun duel after they robbed some persons of their belongings in the locality.
The hoodlums were escaping on their Lifan motorcycle with registration number AGB 278 QN on Urhonigbe Road in Edo state when the patrol team, acting on a tip-off, swooped on them.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Celestina Kalu, who paraded the body at the command’s headquarters in Asaba, said the hoodlums opened fire on policemen during a ‘stop-and-search’ operation. She said: “In the ensuing exchange of fire, one of the suspects was shot and arrested while the other escaped. The injured suspect, however, gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital.
“Later on, the Dragon Team in conjunction with Abavo vigilantes combed the bush and arrested the fleeing suspect, one Sunday Ngozi, who hails from Agbor-Obi and now battling between life and death.” Kalu listed the items recovered from them to include one cut-to-size locally-made gun and the Lifan motorcycle. The PPRO also narrated how the thief who had been vandalising the state House of Assembly Hilux vans was arrested.
According to her, the police operatives attached to the Speaker have been on the trail of the thief, “but yesterday, one Chimere Chibuike, was caught in the act with nine stolen brain boxes and other tools used in committing the crime”.
