Couple grieves over son’s death in auto crash

The parents of a two-year-old boy are still grieving the demise of their son, Dominion Ezeh, who died in an accident on the Isheri-Igando Expressway, Lagos State.
It was learnt that the child was lying in the comfort of his mother’s back who was returning from her shop on the evening of July 31 before they were knocked down by a Toyota Corolla marked, SV 367 KJA.
PUNCH Metro gathered that a relative of the duo, Florence Yanusa, was also trapped in the crash which broke her pelvic girdle.
Our correspondent learnt that Yanusa was on admission at the Eko Hospital, where she was just operated on. However, Dominion’s mother, Mrs. Ifeoma Ezeh, was said to have been discharged from a private hospital where she was admitted.
Ifeoma’s husband, Mr. Felix Ezeh, said the agony that his child’s death had brought to the family could not be quantified.
He said, “I cannot describe his loss to the family. It is very difficult to forget Dominion. His sister always asks why he has been absent in the house, but we try to find one excuse or another for his absence.”
On Monday, the driver of the car, Lawal Nasir, was arraigned before an Ojokoro Magistrate’s court on four counts bordering on reckless driving and non-possession of a driving licence.
The counts read in part “That you, Lawal Nasir, 32, on the July 1, 2014 at about 7.21pm along Isheri Igando Road, in the Lagos Magisterial District, being the driver of one Toyota Corolla S/Car, with registration number, SV 367 KJA, did drive same on the public highway in a dangerous manner without due care and attention to other road users.
“That you on the same date, time and place drove the same vehicle on the public highway without a driver’s licence. That you drove recklessly hit and caused injuries on one Florence Yanusa of 20, Olarewaju Adebayo Street Igando, and Eze Ifeoma of Akeem Oke Street, Igando, Lagos State. That you drove same vehicle hit and caused the death of one Dominion Eze, 2.”
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences said to be punishable under sections 28(1), 45, 34 and 45 of RTA Cap 124 Vol.6 Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
Relying on the wish of the complainant, Ezeh, to settle the matter out of court, the magistrate, Mrs. T. Akani, admitted the defendant to bail, adding that he should always show up in court in person.
The case was adjourned till August 27, 2014.
