2015: Group wants governor from Abia South

A socio-cultural group in Abia State, ‘Otu odi Nma Ochichi Abia’ has tackled Ukwa/Ngwa senatorial district for demanding that the 2015 governorship race should be zoned to its district.
National coordinator of the group, Eze  Micah, in a press statement made available to NT said that the agitation by Ukwa/Ngwa senatorial district for the guber race to be zoned to it district was based purely on sentiment, not justice, fair play and equity.
According to Micah, the situation was compounded by the fact that there were still some aspirants from Abia North who were still campaigning for the same governorship come 2015.
Abia South, argued Micah was the rightful senatorial district to take over from the incumbent governor, adding that governorship aspirants from Ukwa/Ngwa and Abia North, who had begun campaigns ahead of the election in the state were sentimental and unrealistic.
The group therefore thanked the Abia State incumbent Governor, Theodora Orji and the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for their wisdom in zoning the governorship to Abia South in 2015.
"I want to understand that God used a God fearing man in the person of the governor to uphold equity, fairness and justice. We’re happy that both the party and governor were guided by wisdom in their decisions," said Micah.
The group also called on Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North and South people to support the move as the senatorial zone remains the only political platform for rotation of power amongst the three senatorial zones.
Micah further said: “We are mindful of the fact that Old Bende and Ukwa / Ngwa regions exist, but have never been adopted in power sharing or rotation in Abia State.
Proponents of Ukwa/Ngwa should know that Ukwa / Ngwa have produced two Senators in 1999 in the person of Senators Nwanunu and Wabara and in the last eight years, in the persons of senators Abaribe and Nwogu all from Ukwa/Ngwa.
“These are possible because zoning is in place. We have enjoyed the zoning all along and cannot criticize it this time.  We cannot afford to shoot ourselves just because some of us feel it does not favour them this time. We solidly support Governor Orji and PDP in zoning the governorship in 2015 to Abia South. We urge you to go ahead because all well-meaning Abians are behind you.”
