One killed, as robbers’ attempt to rob naval officer

Armed robbers, who were robbing a naval officer at the Maza-Maza area of Mile 2, were shocked to their bone marrows, when they suddenly heard shots fired at them.

Before the bandits could recover from their shock, one of them had been gunned down. Others disappeared into the night, leaving their bleeding, dying colleague.

A police source said that the gang was attacking motorists and passengers who were held up in the gridlock at Maza- Maza, along Lagos- Badagry expressway, and dispossessing them of their cash, mobile phones and other valuables before stormed the scene.

A sergeant attached to FESTAC Police Station said policemen raced to the scene after receiving distress call from one of the victims.
The sergeant said the hoodlums were still busy robbing from the naval officer's car when the anti-robbery men opened fire on them.
When the dust settled, one of the hoodlums was dead while another sustained bullet wound.
The wounded was rushed to the hospital. The police hoped to save him and later use him as bait to catch other fleeing members of the gang.
One of the naval officer's phones was found in the pocket of the deceased robber.
