A 35-year-old Raphael Effiong has told the police that he stabbed his girlfriend to death in a hotel room in Ketu area of Lagos because she was about to jilt him.
“The suspect claimed that the late Gift Sunday was planning to jilt him and elope with another man on the grounds that he could not cope with him anymore,” Effiong reportedly told men of the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
A police source, who spoke with our correspondent yesterday in Lagos, said during interrogation the suspect confessed to have stabbed the lady with a scissor in their hotel room. “The suspect has made an attempt to kill this same girl that he finally killed.
The lady’s elder sister was not around, she we went on a trip outside Lagos. But their neighbour told them that the suspect came and threatened the deceased with a dangerous weapon. “Immediately the elder sister arrived and heard of the incident, she warned her sister to end the relationship,” the source said.
The policeman added that the lady’s body had been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital Mortuary. “We are not relenting on the investigation; the staff of the hotel where the incident happened would also be invited for interrogation before he will be charged to court,” the source said.
