A middle-aged man, identified simply as Mutiu, was on Saturday attacked by suspected hoodlums in the Akoka, Yaba area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the hoodlums pursued and hacked the man at about 10am around a canal in Fola Agoro in Akoka, Yaba.
It was said that the hoodlums inflicted cuts on his head before they fled when they sighted policemen.
Our correspondent gathered from some students of the Federal College of Education, Akoka, whose lecture theatre was adjacent the scene of the attack, that the hoodlums were four in number. The student added that they wore black shirts and trousers.
It was further learnt that some construction workers who were near the canal, had noticed when the hoodlums followed the man into the bush.
It was said that the workers immediately alerted their supervisor, who then called the Divisional Police Officer, Sabo Police Division.

He said, “All we know is that some hoodlums pursued a man to this area. My men noticed them hacking the man and they alerted me. I warned them to steer clear and immediately informed the the police.
“When the police arrived, the hoodlums left the man and fled. The police then took him away in their van and rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment. But whether he survived it or not, I cannot say.”
Meanwhile, same Saturday, another group of hoodlums attacked a resident of Popoola Street, Bariga at about 11pm inflicting several cuts on him.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim, identified simply as Adewale, was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital in the area.
Residents told PUNCH Metro on Monday that the victim was recuperating in the hospital.
