A 22-year-old man, Victor Aladegolu, has been remanded in custody by the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Osogbo for allegedly impersonating officials of the Department of State Security and the police during the recently concluded governorship election in the state.
Aladegolu was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko on Thursday on two counts.
An Assistant Principal State Counsel in the state Ministry of Justice, Mr. Biodun Badiora, told the court that the accused, together with some persons who were now at large, impersonated the police and the DSS operatives.
He said the offence was punishable under sections 109 and 517 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.II Law of Osun State, 2003.
The charge read, “That you, Aladegolu Victor and others now at large, on or before August 9th, 2014 at about 12.05pm at Ile Ife City Hall area of Ile Ife, Osogbo, did conspire together to commit an offence to wit; impersonating members of the police and Directorate of State Security.
“That you, Aladegolu Victor and others now at large, on the same date, time and place presented yourselves as members of the police and Directorate of State Service by wearing a T-Shirt with an inscription of police in the front and DSS at the back.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two charges preferred against him.
Counsel for the accused person, Mrs. Nnenna Ngwu, was asked by the Chief Magistrate to file a formal bail application before the court for his client.
He ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesa Prison custody and adjourned the case to September 12, 2014 for hearing.
