A police corporal, identified as Taye, attached to Denton Police
Division, has been accused of torturing a 19-year-old barber, Gafar
Ayoola, to death at Oyingbo area of Lagos State. Gafar’s father, Mr.
Gboyega Ayoola, said his son was at Oyingbo bus stop about 8:30a.m. last
Friday, waiting to board a bus to Badagry when Taye arrested him.
He said the corporal accused Gafar of abusing him three months ago
and that he had been monitoring his movements in order to arrest him.
Ayoola said he was told that traders nearby begged the policeman not to
arrest Gafar but Taye insisted on taking him to the station. According
to him, a few hours later, Gafar died while being tortured. The news of
Gafar’s death led to a protest in the area. Ayoola said Gafar’s mother
sent the deceased to Oyingbo before he met his death.
He said: “My family and I live at Okoafo, Badagry area, where the
deceased had a shop. Before I left home for the Island on that fateful
day, my wife told me she wanted to send Gafar to Oyingbo to give her
elder sister money for a monthly contribution.http://newtelegraphonline.com/corporal-tortured-son-death-father/
