Gunmen at the weekend invaded the village of Benue State Governor,
Samuel Ortom, and set a man and his wife ablaze.
This came as suspected
cult members killed a 20-year-old man, Friday Okoh, in the North Bank
area of Makurdi, the state capital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu,
confirmed the separate incidents. He said a man and his wife were killed
at Agasha area of Guma Local Government Area, while the young man,
Okoh, was killed by suspected cult members.
Yamu said in the incident at Agasha, a suburb of Makurdi metropolis,
the gunmen set the couple and their home ablaze.The PPRO said the police
recovered empty shells of rifle bullets at the scene.
He explained that the motive of the gunmen could not be immediately
ascertained. Yamu, however, said the 20-year-old man, Okoh, had been on
the wanted list of police on suspicion of cultism.
