GERMANY LAUDS NAPTIP COUNTER TRAFFICKING EFFORTS, DONATES OPERATIONAL EQUIPMENT TO THE AGENCY



The German Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Beinhard Schlagheack has commended the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for the proactive strategies adopted in the renewed fight against human trafficking and irregular migration in the country.
The Ambassador said the Republic of Germany was satisfy that NAPTIP is implementing the content of the bilateral agreement between his country and NAPTIP
which bothers on countering human trafficking and irregular migration.
He stated this in Abuja during the official presentation of working tools to NAPTIP.
It would be recalled that as part of the supports for the activities of the Agency, the German government had trained Officers of NAPTIP and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) between 23rd – 27 October, 2018 on “Combating Trafficking in Human Beings”.
The Envoy who expressed satisfaction with the current evacuation of stranded Nigerians from Libya and the roles of NAPTIP in rehabilitating the victims disclosed that the Agency deserves full support of all stakeholders in all areas of its operations.
He assured NAPTIP of the sustained support of Germany to the Agency.
In her response, Director General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah- Donli, expressed appreciation to the Government of Germany for the donation of the operational tools saying that the equipment will go a long way to boost the operations of the Agency.
She disclosed that already the Agency in line with its renewed efforts aimed at tackling incidence of human trafficking in the country, has secured  conviction of three human traffickers in the month of January, 2018 adding that had times await traffickers in Nigeria,
She solicited for more supports in the areas of capacity building for operatives of the Agency, rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking, awareness creation and other areas,
Highpoint of the ceremony was the formal handling over of the items to the NAPTIP Director – General by the Ambassador.
Items donated included  6 Amcrest IP Cameras, 24 Digital Voice Recorder, 5 HP All - in - one Desktop, 5 Asus Laptops, 4 Epson Projectors, 2 Creative Suite Software, 3 HP Desktop Colour Printer Copier, Scanner and 4 Sony HDR Video recording Camcorder.
