4 arraigned for alleged assault on Fayose



FOUR persons are now facing a two-count charge of assault at an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s court, following their alleged attack on a former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose.
The accused were arraigned on Monday, following an attack on Fayose at Efon-Alaye, headquarters of Efon Local Government Area of the state on November 20.
The accused, Mr Eniolorunda Olaoluwa (26); Mr Adeyemi Sunday (24); Mr Olowe Bidemi (23) and Ojo Tunde (22) were charged with conspiracy to commit assault and assault.
The police prosecutor, Mr Bamikole Olasunkanmi, alleged that the accused committed the offence on November 20, at Efon-Alaaye in the Efon Magisterial District, adding that he would call six witnesses to buttress his case.
Olasunkanmi said, while four of his witnesses were in court, he sought an adjournment to arrange the other witnesses and study the case file.
Counsel for the accused, Mr Akomolafe Taiwo, orally prayed the court to admit his clients to bail in liberal terms, arguing that the offences were bailable and that “Section 118 of the Criminal Code says an accused is termed innocent until proven otherwise.”
Ruling on the bail application, the Magistrate, Mr S.I. Ojo, admitted each of the four persons to bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety each in like sum and ordered each of the sureties to submit two passport photographs to the court and that their residences must be confirmed by the police.
He adjourned the matter till January 18, 2013 for further hearing.
Fayose and his supporters in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were attacked in Oye, Ire, Ilawe, Ado and in Efon on November 20, while he had also claimed that suspected members of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) had perpetrated the attacks.
