Group demands probe over killing of father of four

Eyitayo Peter
Campaign for Constitutionalism and Human Right (CCHR), a non-governmental group, has asked the Lagos State Commission Mr. Kayode Aderanti, to fish out and prosecute the killers of Eyitayo Peter, who was shot and killed 48 days.

Eyitayo was shot and killed on January 22, by unknown gunmen at the Agege area. It was later alleged that policemen killed. But nobody had been able to prove that police killed the deceased.

The Executive Secretary of CCHR, Comrade Prince Toyin Raheem, said that it was saddening and that 48 days after the killing of Eyitayo, the police were yet to fish out his real killers, let alone to prosecute them.

He spats: “The police are treating the issue with levity! This lukewarm attitude of the police, to arrest the mastermind and killers is an indirect confirmation of the popular saying that some people are above the law. CCHR hopes that the police would prove the saying wrong by taking immediate action to bring the perpetrators to book.”

Raheem declared that CCHR was ready to provide legal practitioners to prosecute perpetrators in court, if they were eventually caught.

He noted: “What we required from the police is to arrest and charge the suspects to court. This is a crime and for any act of criminality to be charged to court, it must emanate from the police.”

Raheem said that the family members of the late Eyitayo were in distress.

“We hereby called on the police to take immediate action, for justice delayed is justice denied. In this case, Justice should no longer be delayed. The blood of Eyitayo Peter is crying for justice,” said Raheem.
