A mother lost two of her kids to
fuel explosion at the Agegunle area of Lagos State at the weekend.
The explosion was said to have occurred
at a resident in Ajegunle, where the two kids, one of them a polytechnic undergraduate
were burnt to death.
Their mother, who was affected in
the explosion, was rushed to hospital. Residents said that the woman’s husband
immediately suffered stroke attack when she got the news about his wife and two
kids.
According to residents the mother of
the two kids, fondly called Mama Kehinde, used to sell fuel at Olowojuenjeje Street.
Mama Kehinde used to sell the fuel
in jerry cans; in a shanty were they live. Close to where she sells, a lady was
cooking. The heat from the stove caused the eruption. Flames engulfed Mama
Kehinde, her two kids and the woman cooking.
The fire gutted the shanty and
killed the two children. One of the kids, identified as Kehinde, was a polytechnic
undergraduate.
A resident, Juliana Mmaduako,
explained that Mama Kehinde was well known in the area for buying fuel in
gallons, which she would later resell.
Mmaduako, who described selling of
fuel in gallons, as dangerous, said: "Mama Kehinde’s shanty was gutted by
the fire and it killed her two kids. The fire affected Mama Kehinde. She had
been rushed to the hospital. The father of the children suffered stroke when he
heard about the accident. I wept like other people when we saw what happened. The
woman who was cooking was also rushed to hospital.”
