NDLEA evacuates N364m Indian hemp from a private building

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), have evacuated cannabis, otherwise known as Indian hemp, valued at N364 million from a private building in Akure, Ondo State.
Two men, Collins Nmor, 35 and Godday Chibuzor, 27, have been arrested in connection with the illicit drug, which weighed 34,030kg.
The NDLEA Ondo State Commander, Barrister Ibrahim Abdul, who said that his mission was to sanitise the State of illegal drug activities, said that 12 vehicles were used to move the cannabis from the private building. He said that the evacuation started around 4am and ended 8:30pm.
The building is located at Shagari Housing Estate, Akure.
Abdul said: “The entire house is being used as cannabis storage. The suspects are currently assisting our team of investigators with useful information. This is single largest seizure of cannabis since the establishment of the State command. The discovery of the secret cannabis warehouse in the heart of Akure was based on a tipoff.”
According to the Commander, he was in the state on a mission to ensure that all drug barons were arrested, their drugs seized and each one of them prosecuted.

He added: “In the past few weeks there has been series of arrests and seizures but this is massive. We began evacuation of the drugs since 4am with 12 vehicles and the operation lasted over 12 hours. As we speak, three sensitive operations involving the destruction of cannabis plantation are going on simultaneously.”
Chairman of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade has commended the command for the discovery.
He said: “This discovery of a cannabis warehouse in a residential area within Akure town is laudable. I commend the officers for this landmark achievement in the Agency’s supply control efforts. We shall continue to provide logistic support to officers in eradicating illicit drugs from our society. Let me assure you that no drug baron shall go unpunished and the building used for the storage shall also be forfeited to the federal government.”
