Navy, police kill six illegal bunkerers in Lagos

Personnel of the Nigerian Navy and Police in a joint operation killed six suspected illegal bunkerings in Lagos State.

The deceased were killed after several hours of gun battle with the joint forces at Abule-Oba, a suburb of Owotu in Ikorodu area of the state.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, detailed his Crack Squad team, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Igbinazaka Ugowe to place the creek in the area. They were ordered to carry out 24 hours surveillance.
A police source said that on sighting the security agents, the inhabitants deserted the village. It was reliably learnt that some of the fleeing villagers, alerted the oil bunkerers of the presence of the police and naval personnel.
The source added: “The bunkerers fired a GP machine at the security agents. The security men quickly retaliated. While the leader of the gang escaped, six members were mowed down by the agents. The agents destroyed two of hoodlums’ boats and recovered no fewer than 750 kegs filled with petroleum product.”
