At least 15 inmates were said to have escaped from Nsukka Prison in
Enugu State on Tuesday night after they opened the cell gate and scaled
the prison fence.
The Controller of Nsukka Prisons, Mr. Lawrence
Okonkwo, who confirmed the jailbreak to journalists, gave no further
insight into how the prisoners escaped.
He said: “Yes there was jailbreak last night (Tuesday) in Nsukka
prisons but I am not in position to say how many prisoners escaped. “We
are expecting the Enugu State Prisons Controller, Mr. Isaiah Amariri in
Nsukka prisons so that we briefed him on what happened.
“He will be the one to tell the public the number of inmates that
escaped, re-arrested ones and efforts put in place to arrest those still
on the run.” Our correspondent, however, gathered that two of the
escaped inmates were re-arrested yesterday morning by security agents.https://newtelegraphonline.com/15-escape-nsukka-prison/
