Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) said it had concluded arrangement
to repatriate 29 illegal immigrants to Niger Republic.
The NIS
Comptroller, Lagos State Command, Mrs. Clara Okojie, said those being
repatriated were discovered to be without any travel document required
by Nigerian law and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
protocol.
To ensure that those repatriated go back to their country, Okojie
delegated two Deputy Comptrollers of Immigration (DCIs), Ahmed Hamzat
and Saleh Abdullahi, to supervise the repatriation.
Okojie advised residents in Lagos not to harbour illegal immigrants
in their homes, because it was against the law. She a team of
immigration officers raided Lagos Island and its environs and arrested
several persons, suspected to be illegal immigrants of Nigerien origin.
The state NIS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent
of Immigration (DSI) Jide Ogungbe, said a thorough investigation of the
suspects was conducted and after profiling, 29 of them were found to be
without any travel document required by Nigerian law and ECOWAS
protocol.
He said: “These 29 people are being repatriated to Niger Republic.
The Lagos State Command will also like to use this opportunity to
solicit the public cooperation in area of valued information on
irregular or illegal migrants living in the neighbourhood and also to
note that harbouring such ones is against the law.”https://newtelegraphonline.com/immigration-repatriate-29-nigeriens/
