Immigrants now enter Nigeria through waterways-NIS boss

The outgoing Assistant Comptroller of Nigerian Immigration Service, Zone ‘A,’ comprising Lagos and Ogun states command, Mr. Musa Muza, has revealed that desperate immigrants, have jettisoned land, to now enter Nigeria through waterways.

According to Muza, checking the movement of such immigrants was quite challenging. He urged the federal government to provide speedboats, with which NIS operative could use in tackling such immigrants.

Muza made the call yesterday, during a send forth party, organised for him by officers and men of the zone.

Muza said: “The present administration is doing its best, but we need more equipment. We have made our request known to the authority. We are having problem on the sea because the land is no longer easy for them to pass through. The land is no longer easy because of the regular patrol of border by our men. Presently, our major concern is the sea, where we need boats to patrol. Sometimes, we always rely on our sister agencies or hire others, to undertake the rigorous patrol of the waterways.”
He said that the lack of these speedboats is one big challenge he discovered during his active days. He urged FG to, as a matter of urgency, address the issue.

Muza added: “Throughout my stay in Lagos, there was not negative report about the zone. No officer died under my watch. I made it a commitment when I resumed office. The commands under me prevented and curtailed the influx of high profile criminals and terrorists into the country through the borders, sea and the airport.”
The incoming Assistant Comptroller General, Mr. Ishiaku Hammed, eulogised Muza’s activities and advise the officers and men to rededicate themselves to service.

Hammed said: “We should remember; whatever we are doing, we’re doing it as a service to the nation.”
