Nigerian woman faces fraud trial in UK

A 29-year-old Nigerian woman, Fausat Abolore, yesterday appeared before Inner London Crown Court for allegedly paying a man £1,000 to pose as her newborn baby’s father in order to avoid deportation. Standard Evening said the police found out about Abolore’s fraudulent act through online pictures of the real father cuddling his son at a naming ceremony.

The accused reportedly hired 44-year-old Anthony Ezekpo in a bid to gain British citizenship, using his name on the baby’s birth certificate and a subsequent passport application.
The woman claimed that she lived with Ezekpo and also provided a fake address to the United Kingdom (UK) authorities. But the UK police said the baby’s real father, Peter Gentry, was a Nigerian and was photographed at the naming ceremony, on September 15, 2014.
The police also told the court yesterday that Abolore wired £1,000 to Ezekpo’s bank account the day her baby’s birth certificate was signed and that she entered England illegally. “He was enlisted as part of a fraudulent scheme to get British citizenship for her to remain in the UK.
A man turned up with her at council offices in Greenwich to register the birth and get a birth certificate. The man putting himself forward as the father was not Mr. Gentry but Mr. Ezekpo, and they both said they lived together,” said police prosecutor, Adam Gardner.https://newtelegraphonline.com/nigerian-woman-faces-fraud-trial-uk/
